For teachers
Independent practice that supports classroom learning.
Tutor Scotland is a Scottish learning platform designed to help pupils practise focused skills, understand feedback and return to class better able to explain where they need help.
Practice, feedback and understanding
Activities are designed to give pupils a focused opportunity to think, respond and improve. Feedback recognises what an answer has achieved and gives a useful next step, helping pupils take greater responsibility for their learning.
Practice with care
Some National 5 practice resources are created with OpenAI from fixed teaching instructions. Pupils’ answers, writing and learning history are not sent to OpenAI. Practice feedback comes from local checks and is not an official mark or predicted grade.
Folio preparation boundary
Folio Coach is limited to preparation before drafting begins. Once a pupil starts their draft, they work independently and follow their teacher’s guidance.
Professional judgement remains central
Tutor Scotland’s feedback is one source of guidance. It should sit alongside teachers’ knowledge of the subject, the course and the individual pupil when work is discussed, marked or planned.
Designed for independent learners
The aim is not to remove productive struggle or hand pupils finished answers. It is to help them understand where they are stuck, act on feedback and develop the confidence to produce their own work.
National 5 and Higher English
Each level has its own RUAE and text practice, Critical Essay guidance and Folio preparation. Pupils choose the course they are working towards.
Questions or feedback?
If guidance is unclear or something doesn’t look right, let us know. Please describe the activity without sending pupil names or schoolwork.
